Fashion Design Undergraduate at Missouri State University
My love for fashion design started when I was a child. While all the other kids were talking about being fire fighters, marine biologists, and doctors, all I talked about was being a fashion designer and making sparkly dresses. As I grew up, my access to materials and knowledge of fashion design were limited, and to replace fashion, I turned to graphite and watercolor as my first loves in my creative journey. I cultivated these skills all through high school, and even thought I’d end up as a professional artist at some points. I loved— and still do love- creating surrealistic images in both graphite and watercolor. Even though I heavily focused on the fine arts, I always ended up straying towards fashion in some way. Though, at the end of the day, my fine art skills took precedence, and I put fashion design on the back burner.

I was finishing up my senior year of high school during the height of the pandemic, and I started to consume more fashion content. As I looked deeper into fashion, I came to the slow realization that maybe fashion design could actually be a career choice for me. Contrary to fine art, fashion had so much more than just sitting down and creating. I had developed a love for all types of creative mediums, and fashion design had it all. Not only could I develop clothing, but I could also form textile patterns, create motifs/graphics, plan and execute photoshoots, and engage my analytical side through pattern drafting and line development. I had finally found a career that engaged with my interests, while allowing myself to be the creative I have always wanted to be.

I started pursuing fashion design seriously during college, and it is the best choice I have ever made. While I do not design sparkly dresses—not even close in fact—I think little me would be proud to see that I am pursuing my passion to be a creative, and ended up right where she wanted me to be.
My Strengths:
I am a person that aims to deliver results that are detailed and finished to the best of my ability. I focus on putting my all into every task assigned to me, and work hard to find solutions to any problems that may arise. I am also able to complete tasks assigned to me by the deadline without compromising their quality. My organizational skills help keep me on track and help me decide the best course of action for my current task or problem. All of these qualities allow me to work my best in a time sensitive environment even with any problems that may arise during the project.
